Students from the R. H. Bearden Quest Gifted Enrichment Program traveled to Biloxi during Spring Break, visiting the Infinity Science Center and the Institute for Marine Mammal Studies.

This trip was the most memorable experience for the group. Ms. Pointer thought that the opportunity for the students to stay at the Margaritaville Resort would be the highlight of their trip. However, a phone call from a supporter of the Gifted Program to the Institute for Marine Mammal Studies Center made it a life-changing experience.

The students were invited to witness the release of endangered sea turtles into the Gulf by members of the Audubon Institute, where they were welcomed by staff and leaders from both institutes.

Local and Louisiana television crews were present as well and interviewed a couple of specific gifted students. Ke'Arie Burrage and Emmarie Watson did an awesome job of representing the gifted program as they were interviewed by the television stations.

Speaking in public has been a gifted standard that Ms. Pointer has emphasized with the students. She did not expect them to receive the opportunity to speak on television. Ms. Pointer encourages students to be courageous, respectful, responsible, and good role models.

Exposing students to different educational experiences is very important. Trips cannot be possible without the support from the district, parents, and those who make monetary donations.

The gifted students and Ms. Pointer really appreciate the chaperones: Mrs. Christian, Ms. Jakes, Mr. Haywod, Ms. Morris, Ms. Brown, Officer Tyler, Mrs. Jones, and our driver, Mr. Hampton.

Ms. Pointer says that her goal is to make a difference in the lives of the students so that they can become productive members of society. Ms. Pointer hopes that the R.H. Bearden Quest Gifted Enrichment Program will continue to have a positive impact on the West Tallahatchie School District and the community.
